WKBM specialises in dry cupping using silicone RockPods. These provide suction to decompress the underlying tissue, pulling and lifting the tissue to create space in the subcutaneous area and stress the collagen fibres. This is different to manual massage therapy as the therapist is not pushing into the body, instead they are pulling away
Dry cupping can be offered as a stand alone treatment but is more beneficial when incorporated into a massage treatment. The pods can leave red circular marks on the skin (called ecchymosis) due to the dilation of capillaries, which can last for up to two weeks. However, these red marks are neither painful nor permanent
What to expect:
Decreases pain – cupping using RockPods encourages local circulation of blood around the area being treated, helping to reduce swelling, pain and tension
Promotes healing – cupping stimulates blood flow to the surface, encourages the removal of waste products, and promotes cell repair
Improves blood flow – cupping increases blood circulation, which can relieve muscle tension thereby improving overall blood flow
Improves range of motion – cupping eases the fascia or connective tissue, which can help release restrictions in tissues, helping improve range of motion within a joint
Enhances proprioception – cupping is thought to improve the interaction between the skin and the underlying structures to help reset the circuitry of this part of the nervous system, resulting in improved muscular activation and performance
