Massage goals, limitations and reactions
Massage is structured, professional touch. Massage techniques manipulate muscles, tendons, and fascia to promote health and wellness. Benefits can include stress reduction, circulation enhancement, relaxation and relief from tension, soreness, and pain. WKBM therapists do not diagnose diseases or musculoskeletal conditions, prescribe drugs or medical treatments, or perform skeletal adjustments. Massage is not a substitute for medical examination or treatment. It may lead to adverse reactions in certain circumstances, cause superficial bruising or short-term soreness, or exacerbate an injury. Your therapist will discuss your personal information form with you and if they are uncertain whether massage will be of benefit to you, or if it may be unsafe, they may ask you to confirm with your doctor that it is safe for you to receive massage. Please provide complete details of any medical conditions and medications you may have. Failure to do this may place you at risk of adverse reactions.
Payment, policies and practices
Our charges are set out on the WKBM website (www.wkbm.co.uk) and Facebook page @westkentbodiesmatter and you may discuss them with your therapist at your appointment. Please make any payment in cash or via direct bank transfer either in person on the day or within 24 hours of your appointment; bank details will be provided separately. Minors and dependants are welcome, but an adult guardian must be present at all times.
Expectations and rights
You have a right to prompt, professional service in an environment that is clean, private, and safe. You are expected to demonstrate good hygiene and not use illegal drugs or alcohol before your appointment as these can make it unsafe for you to receive massage. You have the right to end the massage at any time should you feel dissatisfied or uncomfortable in any way. Behaviour of a sexual nature may lead to summary termination of the massage and refusal of further service. WKBM will hold your personal information in accordance with relevant data protection laws from time to time; a copy of WKBM’s data protection policy is available on request. Save as may be required for governmental, insurance, legal, or court obligations, WKBM will not share your information with any other party without your consent.
Prior to your treatment
Before your appointment, please complete and return the personal information form provided by WKBM. We require the data to confirm your appointment and may need to discuss it with you in advance. We deep clean working environments before and after each client allowing at least 30 minutes between appointments. We use clean covers and towels for all clients, and handle all used materials so as to avoid cross contamination.
Your appointment
Please shower before your appointment. Your therapist will discuss your intake form and goals and agree your treatment with you. They will turn their back or leave the room while you remove any clothing as may be needed for treatment and there will be a freshly cleaned space in which to put your clothes before getting onto the table. Please do not wear any clothing that would be affected by oil from the massage, or remove it before your treatment. Your therapist will only undrape the area on which they are working and will make every effort to respect your modesty. It is important to note that, unless you advise otherwise in advance, by signing your client information form you consent to your therapist working on all areas of your body including legs, arms, back, chest, abdominal, inguinal and internal work. If there are areas of your body where you would prefer not to have massage applied please write this on your form in advance or advise your therapist whilst they work, and at all times they will respect your instructions.
Whilst you are getting ready your therapist will wash their hands and don any personal protection equipment ("PPE", e.g. gloves) required. Once finished, your therapist will make sure you are feeling alright and safe to get up alone or if you need assistance. If you need assistance they will help you up then turn their back or leave the room whilst you dress, and if you are alright to get up alone they will turn their back or leave the room whilst you get up and dress. In either event they will then discuss homecare with you. When getting up please use the draping towels to clean off any excess oil.
